Yes and No

Yes... about your need to refrain from posts and discussions with 'x', 'y' or 'z'

And No...i do not agree that online persona can be very different from a one -to-one interaction... there are exceptions to the rule..but, in this case, the off-line or personal interaction would be the sham you are talking about...

It is like "not breaking air" in public because that is not the done thing...so a lot of control comes in just as when one is dealing at a personal level....

Perhaps this is true of many situations but I would not hold that to be true here. I stand by my judgment that the online persona is the sham -- the real person is different and enjoyable company.

I still think CP brings a lot of value to the DG and Kban as the admin need to leave him alone for now.

my post was not as admin --it was as a frustrated member.

Dear kban,

I think CP is a rabble rouser who actually has a single point agenda to keep the DG alive. The SG issue has become his brand identity now and like many mortals, he cannot get over it. He often does cross the line and is deliberately mischevious, but it can all perhaps be taken with a chuckle/a dismissive chuckle/a chuckle of contempt or a belly laugh with generous doses of salt thrown in. He has appeared shrill and opportunistic in recent times because he has had very few opportunities with SG performing the way he has been.

I do believe that at the end of the day, there is no malice involved. He is not a bad sort at all. I would like to meet CP someday with a baseball bat (since I do not have a cricket one) to exchange some ideas about good strokemaking. I suggest you do too.

I dont disagree with your opinion about the real life nature of the person. I have met him in real life and I know better than most on this Dg  -- I have alluded to that as well.

Neither do I grudge or object to the poster's online rabble rousing. My objection is to the denigration of any serious discussion or debate. I dont think asking a poster to maintain the integrity of the debate is really that big an ask -- its not too much to expect now, is it ?

Is he still our best test batsman?

He scored a magnificent 144 in the last tour when the team was in a spot of bother.  His comeback series in RSA, he exceeded everyone's expectation.
In England he endured several spells of great bowling to score runs. He was in a form of his life against Pakistan.  SG has a history of playing exceedingly well when no one expects him to.  Everyone thought he would blow away the aussie bowling in the current series, but he has struggled.  For longtime followers of SG's achievements, it should not be a surprise. He does well when people least expect him to, he is likely yield below par returns when expectations are over the top.  But he is a dependable player to have in the ODI team.

He would certainly be in my starting X1 for the next test agaist RSA at home, unless one of the younger guys(Uthappa,Sharma,Karthik,Gambhir etc) demand a place by virtue of stellar performance in the ODI tri-series.  (not mixing ODI form for test suitability, but cricket is cricket and we need youngsters in the test team as well)

I am happy you think differently about this person given that this poster in question has a limited agenda... and FP, Pips and I are the anti-nationals and people with no cricketing knowledge ... only because we have not been pussy footing and taking him on head on...( atleast till I decided to "ignore" which in my view is a great option in the new version of this DG  :icon_thumleft: )

Anyways...live with your opinion... you will learn as days and months go by...

GC / More haters are to be shunned...SG hater by the mile needs to be cuddled and protected... way of life , I guess

I think you are reading more into this than is required.

I have met the person and in real life he is different than his online persona. I have observed and put up with the verious shenanigans of the online persona before I called it out. Thats all that there is to it.

I am not cuddling or protecting anyone. Neither am I shunning anyone  -nor have I termed anyone as lacking in knowledge. I fail to see where any of this comes into the picture.

And where Sir, have I even remotely singled you out for all that you have mentioned ...
I have been here long enough to know and understand what is happening...let's leave it at that
