The Indian players can enjoy a nice cuppa while we in India can have a tension free lunch.

i am scared that whatever we may eventually make will not be enough for an innings lead. this pitch looks like an absolute batting beauty. the only hope is that their speed demons are not what is needed for this surface, and it is our swingers that may actually prevail.
i hope we do make 400-450 and more!!

oh here we go...im not watching, but typical Asad?
all it takes is a couple of vociferous appeals

Lee to Tendulkar, OUT, this time Lee gets his man, as he pitches on a short length and gets Tendulkar back in the crease, playing down the wrong line and copping it very, very high on the knee roll again, umpire Rauf takes his time to give it out ... replays show it was indeed high and going over the top of off stump ... another of those marginal calls and Tendulkar shakes his head as he walks off

57.1    Lee to Tendulkar, no run, short of a length on leg stump, Tendulkar shapes to flick but the ball clips him very, very high on the knee roll and Lee belts and continues to belt out an appeal but that wasn't out, show replays, as it was carrying on over the stumps

And Ch 9 trying to defend the decision --showing the lbw appeal from 2 balls prior (which was high too) and then commenting on the Symmo appeal (which was marginal as it was clipping leg bail).

is there any wonder that Aussies get an inflated opinion of the action on the ground as it relates to the decision favors they get, given Ch 9's slant, despite their brilliance otherwise.

screw channel 9. all we are going to be looking for is the consistency in decisions. if ponting is hit on the kneeroll while hopping will he be given out? if not then clearly there is an error in the umpires' thought processes

IC called it immediately on the SRT lbw ... says there is no way you can ever give an lbw in Perth to those balls .. as an umpire you dont even have to think about these before saying no.

another of those marginal calls and Tendulkar shakes his head as he walks off

What marginal? That was miles over the top .. SRT was actually jumping while he played that shot and I am also not convinced that it was not outside the line of off stump.

And, the worst part is that Rauf thought about it a bit and then gave it out. I can understand an instant decision where the umpire goes by instinct .. but, after thinking about it, I dont see how one cant get it right on this wicket.

That was some commentating! Saying that Sachin was beaten thrice by Lee before he was out and somehow indicating that therefore Lee deserved the wicket. Are those the new rules? He was out on neither of the 3 balls, and all the earlier appeals were also unclear. He finally went to a very poor decision.... again!!

SG's was a soft dismissal ... he could have left it but then that is the way he scores his runs too, so cant complain.

Johnson's got two wickets and he's looked the most undeserving of the four bowlers on view.

well as i said...typical rauf. influenced by the strength of the appeal, and the previous appeal.

Btw, Lee is one of the best worst appealers.. i.e. he is best at making one of the worst appeals look good...

Yes he was out. We now have a batsman who should have been batting sitting in the pavilion and one who should have been goon still batting.

Maybe all Aussie bowlers should get Lee to appeal for them .. or, maybe, bowl from Rauf's end.

Besides, Dravid did not get beaten three times ...so, I guess he's done something to help himself as well.

Wonder if Rauf has stood here at the WACA before? It will be very difficult to get an LBW from an Aussie umpire here because of the bounce.

I don't quite believe in the evening out theory. Even though it seems so in this case, generally it doesn't and even in this case, you don't know what might have happened if the decisions were indeed correct -- its the buttefly effect.

I agree entirely with you. Only pointing out that today, neither team can really complain to be more hard done without being too hypothetical about it.

In between there was an interesting discussion between Bhogle and IC covering a couple of points:

a) As per IC, the best all round fielders he has ever seen include Mark Waugh, Viv Richards, Greg Chappell .. and he is very tempted to add M Azharuddin to that list. Thinks Mark Waugh was a superior to Mark Taylor as a slip fielder because of the way he fielded when Warne was bowling

b) Apparently, the only batsman to have played a whole day at Perth without hitting a boundary is Geoffery Boycott .. that innings included one four .. but it was all run .. and one three .. which was off an overthrow after a single was taken ... all the rest were achieved through singles .. Boycs scored 77 or so on that one day.

And Sunny was talking about how he improvised with some old gloves to make an arm guard to protect against Thommo .. he was the first one to wear an arm guard as also some finger protectors that he placed inside his gloves.

It was actually pleasantly interesting to hear throughout .. Shastri doesnt seem to be around or he has come on while I was not watching.
