Tips on climbing the corporate ladder
« on: January 18, 2006, 09:46:54 AM »
There probably isn't a person in the world who would not wish for a fair chance, and an opportunity to succeed. We would all prefer to be measured by the content of our character.  In the business world, this translates into an opportunity for a rewarding career.......http://in.rediff.com/money/2005/nov/29gupta.htm
I found this article an interesting read.

i don't know blwe

rediff and times of india have made it a habit to give the middle-class of india a collective depression everyday over their morning cuppa.

0.1 % of the pop is actually making money. the rest are going to be in jobs with a ceiling, and the worst part is they know it.

this electronica-led frenzy is nothing but a smoke-screen, all the time the benchmarks of our lives are being shifted, the price you have to pay chasing the good life is getting higher. we call it getting more professional, more strategic, goal-driven approach to worklife, playlife, familylife. it's nothing but an alternate industry which is getting fuelled where how-to-do-it authors are nothing but cash-register ringers for a few publishers.

can't you see it?

As for me...I am trying desperately on my own.......the feel good articles normally depresses me!
Well..I like this 'goal-driven approach to family life'.............the same as giving quality time to your kids.
Thinks have come to a sorry pass,
But as fineleg says...these are necessary evils....one must adapt inorder to survive.

blwe, fineleg

the point is such articles usually leave one feeling a sense of not being up to it. the truth is most people are thinking adults (except a few i won't name but can be found on this blog:))). but if you read the glut of articles on rediff you'll find everyday there is an article that says "4 steps to be a millionaire", "10 steps to succeed your boss", "2 and half ways to make a killing on the stock exchange" and you read it hoping to find some mantra in it that you don't know, but once you read it you know that you not only know but are applying these tenets yourself as a matter of common-sense. then the question really arises is that if you are missing a trick. but we are not. these 28.75 rules of better living don't take into account core issues of humanity, evolution, character attitude, circumstances, mob mentality. i remember the lessons learnt from every stock exchange bull run. hype kills. people develop suicidic tendencies and some even do.

and right now all around us the "great indian life" (like the "american life")  is being tomtomed. which is why there are issues in mumbai which will soon surface all over the country. teenage crime, drug abuse, broken families. you know what the media is doing, it's raising the expectations out of life for all of us. who are they to real set the benchmark i wonder? editorial and publishing policy (the world is flat is an example of -how to depress the American middle class and scare the european la-di-das) is now deciding what is good for us, and what will make us "with-it types". at some time even the sanyasin bows to societal pressure and tries to alter belief to fit in. so what are we but mere pawns in a game of expectations that can only lead to one thng- increase in ad spends.

the media is running our lives these days....shaping our beliefs and aspirations.
i get irked to see an ad of Maruti in our local tv...about a little child gloating over her father's big car.
my daughter isn't that greedy as yet at 4...but in a few years, I am afraid she will be influenced by such adds...and i'll have to run to buy the latest new, big car!
