North win the Deodhar trophy........

North Zone win Deodhar Trophy
JAIPUR, MAR 9 (PTI)

North Zone clinched the Deodhar Trophy after defeating East by 52-runs on rain rule in the last league encounter of the limited over cricket tournament here today.

North defeated East by VJD method after bad light forced the match to be called off midway through the latter's innings and were helped by South Zone's thrilling two-run win over West in another match to claim the title.

Mithun Manhas struck 105 for his second successive century while Reetinder Singh Sodhi made and unbeaten 108 to propel North to a challenging 284 for three at the Sawai Mansingh stadium.

East, out of the reckoning, were 146 for six in 30.4 overs when play was called off and were found 52 short of the par score of 198.

North bagged five points including bonus points of two, which pushed their tally from nine to 14 and put them top of the table in the final analysis.

On the other hand, West saw the slip out of their hands as they leading with 12 points going into the match against South at Udaipur.

South had eight points in their kitty and had a theoretical chance of winning the trophy, and came pretty close to achieving it. The return of India stalwarts including Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan and Ramesh Powar could not ensure a victory for West who, chasing a target of 279, were all out for 275 off the last ball at the M B College ground.

Agarkar lived upto his all-rounder's tag for once, claiming 2-54 with the ball and smacking 76 to spearhead the West reply.

But, as fate would have it, Agarkar was the last man to be dismissed, run out while trying to steal a third run.

South, put in, relied on a team performance to put up a competitive total of 277 for eight in a match shortened to 33 overs due to rain.

Brief scores: At Jaipur: North Zone 284 for 284 for 3 in 49 overs (M Manhas 105, R S Sodhi 108 no) beat East Zone 146 for 6 in 30.4 overs (A Jhunjhunwala 66) by 52 runs on VJD method.

Points: North - 5, East - 0.

At Udaipur: South Zone 277 for 8 in 33 overs (D Kaarthick 66, Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan 56, H Badani 68 no; A Agarkar 2-54, Z Khan 2-64, R Powar 2-37) bt West Zone 275 all out in 33 overs (Y Pathan 56, A Agarkar 76; S Suresh 3-50) by 2 runs.

South beat West by 2 runs with AA playing a blinder. Had he won the match for west, he surely would have secured his spot in the ODI team for the england series. In the other match, north beat east and took the bonus point too. SG scored a golden duck

here are the scorecards

SG's form is going from bad to worse now. maybe he should really rethink how he is going to make a comeback now. looks like his confidence is all in tatters.

With no more Domestic matches scheduled in the near future.....THAT IS IT for the greatest Indian captain

The four lettered guys(Greg and More) have finally succeeded in shattering the confidence of this man  >:(

Jhunjhunwala again does well. He has been quite consistent this season. Aggie prolly has secured his place in ODI with this performence. BTW did VRV play in this game? He didnt play in last one and i was surprised. Doesnt he wanna come in for ODI games?

BTW Agarkar gave away 54 runs in 6 overs - a bit much IMO
But Powar's performance seems very good in the context of the match (2-37 in 7)
In ODIs, I think it is the bowling that is a worry. On Indian pitches, I'd go with Powar over Agarkar (and depending on how Chawla measures up in the Tests, PC over both of them)

Did the four letter guys give up the six? Did they score the golden duck? Did they score an average of 27 over the last couple of years instead of Ganguly (That average is looking great for SG by the way compared to his current "form")

i wish srinath manages his exit from commentary as well. no one will be asking him to come back like the team management was when he retired from tests.

what a game between South and West. a 2 run thriller!
33 over games, South scored 277 with KKd Karthik, Vidyut, Badani and Badrinath all contributing.
Zaheer and Agarkar the main givers-away, bowling 7 overs 2-64 and 6 overs 2-54 respectively

The runchase, Yousuf Pathan was the only man in the top 7 who went on, scoring 56 off 44.
Then came the surprise, Agarkar scoring 76 off just 40 with 4 sixes! He was run out off the last ball with West 3 runs short, and Zaheer not out at the other end with 26.

It will be hard to ignore  SG if he had scored a couple of skintillating centuries.

Think of it this way. He has been sucking it up royally and the fan club is still up in arms as to he needs to be included (see he is in awesome form... did u see the 30 he scored ?). Can you imagine if he actually was good? If he actually scored a couple of decent knocks? We would have had bharat bandhs and Parliament would just stop everything else and concentrate on this only.

Yes Saar Mr Bush. What you want to give us a few free neuclear reactors? Nah sir no one can talk to you. Singh saab is answering questions in the parliament responding to Mr Bhattachariya about why Ganguly did not get selected? No sir Not Bully ..its Ganguly! Oh the Lynching that you saw. That was More sir... one of the selectors. No Sir that is very normal course of action here!

Whar could be ganguly's next step? What options is he left with? TV Commentry? I am not too sure. He certainly cant coach. he is too old to join films as well. Probably he would join WB cricket board.
