Badri watch
« on: December 18, 2007, 06:00:23 PM »
This season, in the Super League

72* (Maharashtra)
0, 32 (Mumbai)
143, 46 (Karnataka)
61 (Saurashtra)
111, 36 (HP)
138 (Rajasthan)
Avg: 79.88

Pujara is also doing well (Super League, 729 runs, 91.12 average)

Parthiv Patel, Plate League:

49, 62 (Assam)
158 (Tripura)
23 (Services)
31, 12 (Vidharbha)
50, 74 (Kerala)
Average: 57.37

"Sources say that chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar called Parthiv after the meeting and asked him to carry on the good work and not be disappointed." Dec 13 2007

What are Badri and Pujara supposed to do - did not even make it to the probable cut for Australia.

Kingji, it is simple. PP is competing with KKD ... non star ... so he is in the mix.

The other two are MO Bats ... and are competing with Ganguly ... Vengsarkar ko Gangulians se panga le kar marna hai kya?

Badri was part of 24. And for Pujara this is his first season of consistent perfromance. His time will come, but his next stop is Duleep trophy and A team not main Indian team.
The season has been quite disappointing for Rohit and Uthappa while Raina, Kaif and Tiwari has done resoanablly well. And Yousuf Pathan for a change has done well with both bat and BALL. He should feature more often in our ODI team in place of bhajji.

All I can say is with Yuvraj, Sehwag, Badri, Tiwari, Raina, Rohit waiting in the wings Indian batting seems in rather safe hands.

KoP: these are poor scores.

You need scores like these to get into the Indian squad as a backup middle order bat:

16, 0 (Mumbai)
9, 32 (Himachal)
9 (Maharashtra)

If and when they get a chance.. I am afraid their time may come and go.

haha .. selecting VS for opener was bad enough .. selecting him as a back up for the MO is insane.

so, you push a struggling MO bat to open the innings and get a struggling opener as back up for the MO!!

I am starting to get a little worried about Badri.  As WN said his time might come and go.  He is already 27 plus and a few days older than Kaif.  Someone like Kaif based on U-19 glory cashed in rich and played about 125 ODI's for India.  But Badri for all his greatness in the domestic circuit for the last 3 years has 0 appearances for India.

If you look at his numbers his FC average is better than Laxman and Dravid and on par with Sachin.  That is saying  a lot.

I understand in the Test arena he perhaps had to contend with all these established players.  But there is no excuse for him not appearing in the ODI's to this point.

I do not want to hear all these subjective views on how he is better suited to be a Test player.  When Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly, Kaif with a low career 70 SR can play ODI's Badri could have easily matched or perhaps bettered that.

To me it is has gone beyond insanity as far as Badri is concerned.

Rams, I agree. At the very least, he deserves a slot ahead of Rohit Sharma.

Worry not. If Hussey could begin his international career at 29/30 then why not Badri ?

Because Badrinath has performed consistently in his home domestic competition whilst Hussey was not fantastic in the Australian domestic competition.
