Late for flight, CPM MP wants rules bent

CPM MP Sujan Chakraborty created a ruckus at Kolkata airport (TOI Photo)
KOLKATA: CPM MP Sujan Chakraborty created a ruckus at Kolkata airport on Wednesday morning after he was refused a boarding pass for reporting late, and then insisted that the rules could be bent for VIPs.

Though the Jadavpur parliamentarian whipped up a storm demanding to be on the plane, the Kingfisher Airlines staff stuck to their stand, ensuring that the 117 passengers on flight IT 512 to Mumbai did not have to suffer a delay.

Chakraborty's behaviour is in sharp contrast to that of Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, who called up
Jet Airways in September when he was caught in traffic jam in Delhi and asked them to let the flight take off on time.

He later took a low-cost airline to Kolkata. Chakraborty, however, claimed he was entitled to bend the law as a VIP.

"If we (VIPs) reach the airport 10-15 minutes after closure of check-in desk, special arrangements are made for us,'' he told TOI from Mumbai.

The MP insisted that he had reached the airport on time but was stopped by "over-zealous airline officials.''

Actually in hindi too it means the same........but if you pronunciate it differently, then it may mean something else. :)

I see what you are saying... pronouncing it with a short or long sound of 'U'... as in 'u' or 'oo'.

Sujan = su + jan -> it mean good people. 'jan' is not one person but people. Example of one person would be like 'Sukanya'.

Soojan = soo + jan -> it means swelling.

However, if 'soojan' were to be written in english, more often than not it would be written as 'Sujan'.  :)

It happens from culture to culture.
In Pune where I live, I come across surnames like Banbeep, Gandhe( pronunciated Gande), etc.
I wonder, how these guys survive anywhere outside Pune....or Maharashtra! :)

ruchir - this is from samsad bengali dictionary.

সুজন (p. 1016) [ sujana ] n a good or honest or pious man, a good soul.

there is a pronounciation difference with different meanings in bengali.

SUJAN would be pronounced as su-john and would mean a good person but when pronounced suj-own it would mean good people.
thats why the name is written with an 'a' rather than an 'o' when the meaning changes.

as far as i can remember no such differentiation exists in hindi, hence, jan - means people in hindi
