Worst case: 3-0 (Losses at Melbourne, Perth & Adelaide - draw at Sydney)
Best case: 2-0 (Losses at Melbourne & Perth - draws at Adelaide & Sydney)

Our fast bowling is slightly better than Sri lanka. Our best spinner is not 75% good as theirs.

The draws are possible only if our batsmen rediscover their ability to make big centuries. In the current line up, no one seems to be good enough to do that. SRT caught up with 90s virus. Others are good to score 50-70.

It does not seem like Murali is managing it. I shudder to think of the fate of our Harbhajans and Kartiks.

I doubt either will get a game .. except at Sydney.

But, I equally shudder thinking of Kumble's fate .. especially, if he has to bowl on the first two days.

I got this from another forum.

Apparently, Buchanan has put forth a proposal that Aussie reserve players should be allowed to be drafted into other test sides ... as a means to make things more competitive.

After being initially scoffed at, people are now wondering whether it may not be a good idea after all!!

Some of Buchanan's ideas make so much sense that, if he had coached any subcontinental team and had given these kind of ideas, he would have been slapped many times by the players or by the public in an airport.

Shane Warne was right. Aus won those many matches during his tenure, because Aus had great players, not because Buchanan was their coach. Except these kind of stupid ideas, his contribution is less, except organizing those team drills & nets.

In a way, he motivated the players by giving these stupid theories. If not for anything, just to prove his theories wrong, they might won those many matches.  ;D ;D

Best case: 2-0 (Losses at Melbourne & Perth - draws at Adelaide & Sydney)

The draws are possible only if our batsmen rediscover their ability to make big centuries. In the current line up, no one seems to be good enough to do that. SRT caught up with 90s virus. Others are good to score 50-70.

My prediction:

MCG - loss ( we will not have adapted)
SCG - win (we will pile up a huge score and let loose our spinners)
Adelaide - win (AK and SS will run thru' Oz)
Perth - loss (we cannot handle bounce)

2-2 drawn series  ::cheers:: ::cheers::

This is more tougher than winning the IPOD in the fantasy game. A lot of luck needed, lot of trump players need to fire. Show me 1 batsman (Kumble is not a batsman  ;) ) in our team who can score a century in the current form. Or at least show me 1 batsman in Aus team, who can't score a century. Either way, I will accept your prediction. To beat Aus team with our bowling attack, you need huge scores in excess of 500.

This was always the case. Last time around, our batsmen were in very good form. Especially Viru ... he gave us some great momentum at the top. That is how it will have to be this time around as well. In the bowling department, AK is definitely not as good as he was last time around and we will most likely be without our last tour's matchwinner too.

I like Buchanan's idea.

We should allow retired Aussies to play for India.

You mean RD? No way, it is very unimaginable to tour Aus without RD. If you meant Agarkar, well, we can take him as 16th player, if the purpose is just to have him in the tour.

I said matchwinner in the bowling department ... and we won only one match .. now, unless you think it was SRT, there is only one name left ;)

Well, it helps that he is from Mumbai. Vengsarkar selects the forgotten players based on their past records against our opposition. Karthik vs Aus, Sehwag vs Pakistan etc.

Sure - none of them scored a 100 in the last couple of away series. But all have scored 70+ except RD. Except WJ, who is so understandable, IMO, if RD finds form in this test series, all batters will be in pretty good nick.

JFK, it was not mere hundreds ... we had BIG hundreds on the last tour.

Plus we had VS in top form.

Just as the Eng tour was the last series for some of the big names...this Aus tour will also be....for AK,SRT,RD,SG and VVS....

I believe that we will pull it off ...  the beginning of the fall of the Aussie dominance is round the corner

When WI badly wanted to win the 3rd Prudential cup, we pulled the rug
When Aussies badly wanted to conquer the final frontier, we came in the way
When the Aussies wanted to be the Champions in all forms of cricket, we bulldozed them

And now with consecutive victories staring them in the face....   :icon_thumleft:  :icon_thumleft:  :icon_thumleft:

Go India Go !!! Indian Cricket team Rocks !!!!

The pitches in SA & ENG are different from the pitches in AUS. While pitches in SA & ENG favour bowling at least in the whole of first innings and a good part of second innings, pitches in AUS favour batsmen as well as "good" bowlers. They are good test pitches. It will be difficult for the bowlers of other countries to take wickets on those pitches, since their batsmen know well about how to play on those pitches. That will result in huge scores from AUS team. So, we need to score big hundreds to win against AUS even in a single match. If not, at the most we can make a draw, but not win.

In the last 2 tours, our batsmen didn't score any hundreds. Even in the ODIs for a long time, except for YS. YS is not in test team. The batsmen simply seem to be losing concentration after playing for a certain period, say 60-70 overs. You need to play atleast for a day or a day & half to score a big hundred.

The only batsman who can save us is RD and he is not currently in form. I don't count his 200 & a 100 in the Ranji matches much. Those might have got back his scoring habit, concentration for long periods & a little bit confidence but nothing more.

Let us hope for the best & see whether RD recovers form by the time we go to AUS.

Gilchrist has just completed 100 6s in Test matches. He is the leading 6 hitter in Tests. 2 in a row against muralidharan.

That was a bit of a surprise actually. 100 doesnt seem all that many.

Lara next at 88 and cairns on 87. Wonder how many Jayasurya has?

Ponting delcared at 542/5. Is that enough for an innings victory? I think AUS will bat again, even if SL follows on. Before the match, he said that they might have to bat in 2nd innings in Hobart. I didn't understand his strategy, is it to give the rest to the bowlers? or to give practice to the batsmen? If that is the case, he will not enforce the follow on, even if he gets a chance.

It is an aggressive declaration. He probably knows that it may not be easy to take 20 wickets in a row on this pitch ...so, probably wants to keep time in hand in case SL is able to avoid the follow on.

There have been interruptions in play - else 575/5 in almost 2 whole days appears slow for this Aussie side

Lee bowling brilliantly. 2 wickets, 2 edges that dropped safe, 2 dropped catches and a bumped catch off his bowling, all in the last 5 overs!

That is more the reason, why they should have tried to bat once. Time is lost, so no point batting 2nd since you don't know the target. Put 650 on the board and declare. They could have scored 110 runs in 20 overs.

Ponting seems to have more confidence in SL batsmen. 127/2 to 163/6. Now they are going to be 300 runs short.

208/8. SL, Keep up your good work. After Tom Moody left they won 6 ODIs (out of which 3 are against BD) and lost 5 ODIs. They also won 3 tests against BD.

Now, they are losing 2 tests by an innings against Aus. We will know the direction in which SL is travelling after ENG Test series. If Atapattu is to be believed, it is because they are caught between youth & old. Their old players are past their best & they didn't groom proper youth to replace the old players. Their selectors lacked clear vision.

We can just rest our seniors & play the T20 team in AUS Commonwealth bank series ODIs. We will reach the final any way & lose the final 2-0. That will be the result, even if we use our best team.

And this with atleast half a dozen dropped chances. Jayawardane dropped twice off Lee in the same over as I speak.

Now, interestingly Matthew Hayden dashed off towards the dressing room, suggesting that Australia will bat again. Ponting has decided not to enforce the follow on. Interesting decision. Join us in a bit.  ???

I thought so. Ponting somehow wanted to bat again in this Test. Not sure why? If he was an Indian captain, we would have thought he wanted to improve his average or at least we would have thought he is a pussy, lacked courage and dumb. They bowled just 81.2 overs. Today, they bowled 69.2 overs. No way, they might have got tired. They didn't bowl too many overs in the 1st test as well. So, there is no reason to believe they have tired a lot.

The weather prediction is 40% chance of rain on final day. SL never crossed 300 in this series so far. They would not have got 500 in the 2nd innings for sure.

0.6 Muralitharan to Jaques, no run, left alone outside off
0.5 Muralitharan to Jaques, no run, full and swinging away, 139kph, smacked to cover but no runs    :icon_scratch:
0.4 Muralitharan to Jaques, no run, patted to the off side
0.3 Muralitharan to Jaques, no run, good-length ball, bit of bounce, Jaques pushes cautiously down the ground

60/0 in 9 overs. I think this is another way to mentally disintegrate SL bowlers before ODI series.

Nah ...ponting is not pussy ...he is plain unfortunate not to have superhuman and supremely fit bowlers such as ZK, RPS, SS and AK, who can go on and on and on without any rest despite a very hectic schedule up ahead.

His delicate bowlers such as Lee, Clarke, Johnson etc have to be carefully handled given that they have a tri-series and a 4 test series against India coming up and god knows what after that.

 ;D ;D

Australia's next match is against NZ on Dec 11. That means a rest of 3 weeks after this match. I think that is more than enough to get ready for India.

We had a 7 ODI one day series following immediately after that Test.

Wonder why they still haven't declared? Guess they want to get the newest run machine on the block a *er at another century
