Irrespective, I would want them to rest Ganguly ... have Gambhir open and bring in Rohit Sharma. If we dont play him now when will he play?

Yes CP, I am sure Rohit Sharma is the reason you said it ;)
If it was not Rohit, it would be Mohit. Anyone but Ganguly. That has been your go-to delivery for years now. We saw a googly briefly but that was truly like Kumble's googly in his first few years. Used a couple times a year.

You want Rohit Sharma, I want Pujara, Dhawan, Tiwary and Saha (the latter has one FC match and a century, but what the heck). I want to replace Dhoni, Yuvraj, KKD, SRT. What say?

See, this is the problem with you lot (the Gangulians again). You make up your mind and then dont want to see logic.

As soon as you see Ganguly has been mentioned in the same sentence as 'rest' or 'drop' or 'Nagma' then you immediately get your shields up and take off. Sarcastic bombs fly. Logic flies out the window.

Did you stop to think why it would be Ganguly who would be asked to be dropped? Or whether it may actually make sense? No. Ofcourse not. You went of the handle and brought in Yuvraj, Dhoni and KKD.

Now I am sure you (or some of ur other Gangulian friends) would make more sarcastic attacks, posts etc without looking at the reasons at all

Afridi apologises to Gambhir

Karachi: Pakistan’s flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi has admitted that it was his mistake that resulted in his unpleasant verbal duel with Gautam Gambhir during the third one-dayer at Kanpur on Sunday and even apologised to the Indian batsman.

“It was my mistake and I realised it. I told him, I am sorry, so the matter is closed now. Relations between the two sides remain good,” Afridi was quoted as saying in Jang newspaper on Tuesday.

Both the players had exchanged expletives after a mid-pitch collision during the Kanpur ODI, which India won by 46 runs to go up 2-1 in the series.

The all-rounder felt the strong reaction came out of anger and frustration.

“The batsmen were dominating and we were not doing well. I was angry and when Gambhir came through I just reacted and did the wrong thing in the heat of the moment. But I regret it now,” Afridi said. — PTI

Teams take first look at Gwalior pitch

Gwalior: Denied a look at the pitch in Kanpur, Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik and coach Geoff Lawson made sure that there were no such hassles here.

Malik and Lawson headed straight to the Captain Roop Singh Stadium after arriving in the city on Tuesday for the fourth One-Day International on Thursday.

Indian manager Lalchand Rajput and bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad also had a look at the track, which is expected to be a belter.

Malik and Lawson were not allowed to see the pitch in Kanpur by the ground staff after arriving late in the evening which left Malik annoyed. — PTI

GWALIOR: Toss will not be a factor for the fourth One-Day International to be played between India and Pakistan here Thursday, according to the chief curator of the ground who foresees a high-scoring encounter.

"It is a good batting track and toss will not be a factor because the team batting second won't face any problem while chasing the score. The ball will come nicely to the bat and the bounce will be of waist height," Samundar Singh Chauhan said Tuesday, while giving finishing touches to the pitch at the Captain Roop Singh Stadium for the day-and-night encounter.

"The only problem will be the dew because it is the onset of the winter season here. Right after 5.30 p.m. dew starts gathering on the grass, but we will be using a special spray that was also used for the Mohali ODI (last Thursday).

"The spray won't allow the dew to settle on the grass blades. And the due will precipitate down to the root of the grass," said Chauhan, who is a farmer by profession.

He added that there was a tinge on grass on the track, but he won't water the track anymore to dry out the grass by the time the match starts.

"We don't want any side movements off the track. The presence of grass would have helped the bowlers to extract side movements. But we want the match to be high scoring. And by the time the match starts the grass will dry out," Chauhan said.

He added that a new dressing was given to the track in July. "This is the first international match to be played on this track after we gave it a dressing in July. Since then, two domestic matches have been played here, which were high scoring.

"In one match between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in the C.K. Nayudu Trophy 1,200 runs were scored in four days. So, I am hopeful that Thursday's match will also produce runs in excess of 600," he said.

             Incredible India, Pathetic Pakistan
A very long time ago a chieftain called Suraj Sen afflicted with a deadly disease was cured by a hermit saint called Gwalipa. Out of gratitude to the holy man Suraj Sen founded a city which he named after the saint which is today known as Gwalior.
Pakistan however, in the same city was not as lucky as no saint was on hand to cure them for their batting affliction known as dithering.
As seen earlier in this series also, the Pakistani batsmen seemed content with mediocrity rather than brilliance, to the point where one would not hesitate to bandy the word ‘selfish’ in context to their batting. They could manage 77 runs in the last 10 overs, but the question remains on what they were thinking/doing during the first 40?
We would be kidding ourselves if we believed that our bowling skills were causing the problems or that the wicket had anything to do with it. The bowling was steady at best with the Pakistan batting making it look potent.
Mohd. Yousef finished unbeaten on 99 with a pretty decent strike rate but I don’t think anyone shed a tear on his near century miss because Pakistan it looked like had missed the bus much earlier.
Winning the toss and batting and with the possibility of dew later in the evening Malik and Co. should have been looking at a score nearer 300 than the 255 they managed.
In the Indian reply, Ganguly and Gambhir did themselves no favors and perhaps will have more people sharpening their knives in a bid to cut them out of the team while Sehwag surprisingly did himself a world of good.
The night however belonged to one man and it was a night to remember for all Tendulkar fans. Playing at a level that has put him in the exalted company of the ‘greats of the game’, his stroke play put the earlier effort of the Pakistani batsmen under greater scrutiny. His partnership with Sehwag took the fight into the Pakistani camp to leave them floored. It looked like it could end only in one way and it did, with a run out. There seemed so much of nervous energy between the two that many a time they were scampering out of their crease looking for non existent singles.
They say that ‘out of the mouth of babes comes wisdom’ and Tendulkar himself had had a dose of it when his son told him to get to a 100 from 94 with a six. Well he did make it to 94 but never tried for a six and it was Gul and the bounce or rather the lack of it that had the final say. Now here, one can understand if a few tears are shed. While fans may be disappointed and a lot of advice and prayers forthcoming surely we can leave it to a man who already has 42 of them to find a way to get to No.43?
‘The best finishers’ is the name being bandied about for this pair and today they let us know how clinically efficient they could be at the job. Yuvraj and Dhoni are playing well and the element of fearlessness that they bring to the crease bodes well for India.
A lot of records it seemed were made today, amongst them Zaheer getting to 200 wickets and Ganguly a100 of them, though one gets the feeling that he may have preferred to have got that number with his bat today.
