2nd ODI - Kochi
« on: October 01, 2007, 03:52:31 AM »
With rains over the last week making things difficult for the groundsmen to get things up and running inspite of best efforts, one more OSI seems to be headed down the drain...

An opportunity to try RU at the top of the order may go abegging....

And this time around, the rains have been longer than anticipated...Chennai was skipped due to earlier experiences and that seems to be the only place that is hot.... and for all the wrong reasons :)

Report from Kochi is that it rained this morning around 9am and though there is sunshine now, more rains can be expected during the day. :(

Its pouring in Kochi, so best option is to watch a replay of the T20 final tomorrow. Teams have not got out of their Hotel to even visit the stadium.;D

Brilliant captaincy by MSD.. to come up to the stumps.. negate both Hayden and Clarke's tendency to walk up to the bowler.

yes, good captaincy given the bowling speed.

I would much rather see a caught Dhoni, to be honest.

At this moment, we are winning the match based on strike rate.  We are ahead of Aussies there.

pathetic decision at the toss.
first off all you pick two full time spinners, and the pitch is so damn slow, and getting slower. give the spinners your best chance. furthermore why do you want to chase in the slower conditions. case in point: michael clarke 9 overs 2-35, bradley hogg 9.4 overs 3-40.

when are we going to be freed of this dravidian philosophy of winning the toss and making the wrong decision! 5-8 overs of tough batting and we could have posted a decent 250 total and had a much greater chance of winning. we are being hamstrung by our own doing, either it is the batting order or the toss decision, or the choice of personnel. forget the skills in the game for now, but if we get our house in order outside the playing field we will be a much better team.

And looks like MSD was playing only for his 50 and for boosting his average wonly - what a useless innings !!!!! :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

200 indeed - at this rate, he can't even score a 100 even if he opens.....

Uthappa was the only silver lining today  :icon_thumleft:

Useless captaincy as well..
Let us have RD back as captain . He anyway did not perform as player.
MSD is the selfish captain.. he is one player who could have chased the runs down .. and he plays with a SR of 60's .
SRT,RD,MSD The three Maharathis are Arjun's main victim .. I am too sleepy to get started on any...

Sure..RD couldn't have done worse.
First drop your best seam bowler ( RPS) out of eleven and then choose bowling in spite of knowing we hardly have won any matches chasing in the last year or so. How daft is that ?

BBC reporter here started the Ind-Aus report by saying
"The 20-20 winning Indian cricketers have been brought down to earth by the Aussies and were beaten by a whopping margin of 84 runs.."

BTW, looks like Dhoni is beginning to make some subtle changes..

Sending YS ahead of RD .... there is no way RD would have done that under his captaincy. I sense that RD's days in the ODI team are numbered.

Also, one more failure from SRT .. could be curtains for him too. It is more than his low scores, the way he got out today - clearly falling for the trap that Aussies set for him..doesnt augur well for him

I cant recall any Indian captain that was a straight shooter in the sense Dhoni is:

"We are giving our 100 per cent. We are well aware that Twenty20 is history now. But in a match, one team has to lose and in today's match, it was us."

Dhoni, agreed that it was a good toss to win and the fast bowlers in Zaheer Khan and Sreesanth bowled quite well, but he once again emphasized that the team needs to work things out during the middle-overs.

"We need to get things right in the middle overs – between 30 and 50 overs. Although, I would say that our bowlers didn't do too badly but they (Australians) batted beautifully and got few partnerships going," said the captain, a fact that he stressed on after the previous ODI in Bangalore as well, where the visitors went on to score 300 plus as well despite losing four wickets for 90 runs.

Australia, who won this second ODI by 84 runs, took regular wickets to keep India on the backfoot. After scoring 306-6, they never let the hosts come near the target.

"We started off well with Sachin (Tendulkar) and Robin (Uthappa) playing some good strokes but then I would say that they had their strategy in place – the field placings were too good and their bowlers also bowled according to the field-setting," said Dhoni.

Admitting that the Aussie spinners dominated the batsmen, Dhoni said, "We were already four wickets down and had to play very cautiously. We couldn't go for big hits and as a result the spinners took advantage of the situation. We failed to rotate the strike, which eventually put us under pressure."

Dhoni himself, scored a half-century, but it proved to be in vain.

Defending his slow knock of 58 off 88 balls, the wicketkeeper-batsman from Jharkhand concluded: "I just wanted to bat for the full 50 overs. I also wanted the tail-enders to have match practice. So, we continued to play as long as we could."
