utthappa in place of karthik ... so we are now playing with 4 opening batsmen, 1 keeper, 2 middle order batsman ....
Well 2 of them are converted openers  :P. So the balance may be just right. 260-70 we must hold them to this score. Anything more and we will really struggle.

Lets see if India has figured a way out to contain Luke Wright ... last time he took Zaheer to the cleaners.

why not RS in place of RU ? I have nothing against RU ... but its just about the balance of the side ... too many openers might spoil the broth IMO.

Agreed, but the way we are performing most matches will be crunch for us ... then rookies will never get a chance.

Is it only me who thinks that this eng ODI squad has a lot of potential and is really undervalued. Their all-rounders are flintoff, bopara and broad (all three better than our best). I am of course going by just what meets the eye. Batsmen are pietersen, bell and colly, bowlers, harmison, flintoff, broad, sidebottom, anderson. i think that is a very very good lineup with a lot of flexibility if all are fit. wouldnt be too surprised if they win quite a few in the coming years. definitely more than what their rating suggests.

broad is really not an all-rounder...india made him into one.
bopara has potential, let's see
flintoff is probably on the decline with the injuries

bell used to be quite bad at ODI...but India is bringing out the best in him.
colly, pietersen--def. world class

btw, harmi has retired already from ODIs...sidebottom can only swing in england. bowling is pretty weak. batting is their strength--cook will have a long career. he's awesome.
but overall...let's wait till a team other than india plays them to see how good their youngsters really are.

Well, broad used to bat much higher in the county games and is a pretty decent bat. i know one innings does not make him an all rounder, but he is pretty good technique wise. Same case as Monty, when everybody and his uncle could say that he will be a good spinner even before he had toured India. About Broad's batting skills, I am pretty convinced.

Bopara is an awesome finisher, has already done it twice now in a very short career. definite potential.

Agree on Flintoff, but he is still fairly young. Wouldnt say he is on decline.

Bell is a classy batsman and it was only a matter of time before he came good. again i thought everybody can see that.

Bowling wise, england's cupbroad is fuller than India's IMO. an attack of broad, anderson, flintoff, monty with colly and bopara (if not harami) is pretty decent. agree on sidebottom, but then IKP did pretty well in Australia too.

I understand most of my arguments are Ramshorms like, I see the technique and I am making a call on that, but then any idiot can make a call after seeing the stats. (this is ofcourse not to suggest that you are an idiot :))

This is the difference between England's approach and India's approach ... despite two quick wickets being down, the scoring rate has been quite healthy. India just uses this building a foundation thing as an excuse for not being able to use the powerplays effectively.

70 in 15 overs- I would not call that optimum utilisation of power play.

that is almost 5 an over .. with 2 wickets down ... India would have been at 38/2

at the end of over 18, would you rather have 55-0 or 79-4 with SRT/SG and RD  and Yuv back in the pavilion?  ;D

Run out of Colly is a good sign for India. Must not let them get more than 250 from here.

I think the wicket is too good to expect a Leeds kind of spell from SG. As long as he can keep it below 5 it should be OK.
