There's more injury bad news for the England team. Dimitri Mascarenhas injured himself while warming up and has been replaced by Owais Shah.

They should have batted first. I believe India can't chase anything above 225.

Did India get scared after England almost chased down the big total?

But, hey, gives Sachin a chance to redeem himself while chasing.

Lets see if there is an improvement from Southampton. Thought the bowling lacked teeth that day.

Why? Cricinfo's initial report had mentioned that making a correct decision after winning toss  here had always been very tricky. So, it was a chance any way. The report had mentioned that the wicket was kept covered to retain some moisture. Apparently Dravid did mention that he wanted to make use of the conditions. Its up to the bowlers to some extent now. Lets see.

I agree. RPS seems to be getting some help, although Zaheer appears just okay.

Yet again, amazingly fast outfield.

Munaf is a joke on the field.

5.1 Singh to Cook, 2 runs, short of a length, on the stumps, coming in with the arm, Cook clips off his toes just wide of mid-on, Munaf Patel half dives and parries the ball away, the batsmen can pick up a comfortable two

This is really a shame...I dont know why they havent told him to shape up

5.2 Singh to Cook, 1 run, and now there' s a misfield from Munaf at mid-on as Cook just strokes the ball to him. Another run ...

This was really bad ... played straight to him ... no pace on the ball .. there was no run there.

7.4 Singh to Cook, 2 leg byes, short of a good length and slipping down the leg side, Cook swivels and tries to pull the ball away down the leg side. The ball goes off the thigh pad down to fine-leg. A wayward return from Zaheer lets the batsmen get an extra run

This is a disgrace. Poor Robinsingh deserves better from his wards..

8.3 Khan to Cook, 1 run, Dropped! short one banged in, Cook takes the bait, he plays teh pull, it goes straight to RP Singh at fine-leg who watches the ball carefully into his hands and drops the ball! That's a sitter gone abegging.

in a total of 32, we have already given away 5-6 runs due to bad fielding and now a catch dropped. And we still expect to win...

The decision to field first must also be judged in this context - in the context of the non-cooperation movement which the fielders seem to have undertaken.

Why is this man in the team...

11.3 Patel to Cook, FOUR, A bit of width, fairly gentle pace at under 130 kmh, Cook leans into a glorious drive and sends the ball skidding across the turf to the cover fence

9.6 Patel to Prior, no run, short of a good length, outside the off, this is supposedly the McGrath line and length that Munaf bowls well, if occasionally these days, left alone to the keeper

I dunno. The pitch seemed to be a belter and a very fast outfield with boundaries pulled in. Yes, there were a few clouds around, but didn't seem good enough to bowl first. Also, of late, SRT, SG, RD seem to play much better while setting a target than chasing a target. With SG, SRT, and RD batting in the top 3-4, we have a better chance batting 1st unless the conditions are really bowler-friendly.

Now, SMG says Munaf should focus on bowling line and length and not try to bowl fast  ::) ::). Dude - he's bowling at 129-131 !!!!

well, accurately bowling poor balls and tempting the batsmen - eventually, there will be a miscue. you missed the strategy!  ;D

I would have batted first anyway. However, the clouds and the supposed juice in the pitch for the first few overs might have influenced Dravid to let his bowlers have a go. Of course, he underestimated the likes of Munaf going for 19 runs in 2 overs and the appalling fielding/dropped catch etc.

Its time Tendulkar, Ganguly etc. learnt to chase well, as they used to...so for me that is not an issue

Shastri says win the toss and bat 1st - belter and fast outfield and India playing 2 spinners.

David Lloyd - it is a really dry pitch. So, win the toss and bat 1st, use the rough patches created in the 1st innings and unleash your 2 spinners on England.

Ashley Giles who has played all his cricket here says Win the toss and bat 1st here....

We need another wicket or 3-4 really tight overs here. Otherwise we might as well wish this game good bye.
