I would think so too. There was nothing conditions-wise to suggest whether to bat or bowl first. I didn't see what MSD said at the toss.

The captain can't do much with Munaf spraying the ball all over the place with very erratic line and length. But Dhoni was good with his bowlers' rotation and also field placings in this game - 1st game I'm seeing him captain.

there are two kind of hypocrites in my dictionary, one typical ...the more perverted ones...i pronounce them in the same manner as you see it ...

all the bowling scrutiny was done. and, in the batting, there was hardly anything else to scrutinize - if you ignore the hooked six by RU.

My view on SG in ODIs - he would be good when chasing or setting those middling scores in the range of 200-250, where he can take his time and play out a long innings. His form is good enough to ensure that he will get his eye in and, more often than not, not throw it away. However, in very high scoring matches, he could be a liability if he bats during the power plays.

The alternative is for SG to move down the order - maybe No4 - where he will be more likely to face the spinners, who he should be able to tackle much better ... it would also allow him the luxury of batting outside the power plays, where there is not as much pressure to make each over count.

Watched every ball of the 6 odd overs for whatever it was worth and I do not see any reason why judgements should be passed on SG's batting....He seemed to be middling the ball except for one inside edge....and RU at the other end was fairly aggressive...there was  no need for any rash shots or an impending need to accelerate....did we know something that the players did not....prolly they were sure of the match being rained off .....

And since when have 6 overs been parameters for judging a batsman and these are not 6 full overs faced by only one batsman......

I agree. If anything needs to be judged and harshly at that it is the trashbag that Munaf patel calls his own bowling.

I dont think anyone .. on this thread, at least .. is judging SG based on these 6 overs alone. It was just another opportunity to outline thoughts... just as was done in the case of Munaf earlier. Else, the first match on comeback from injury alone cannot be the basis for judging a bowler either.

Yeah - the one important question I would like to ask is:

Is MP the fastest medium-pacer in the World ?

Is he the most medium-paced fast bowler in the World ?

Irrespective ... unless MP can prove that he is a bowler capable of taking 3-4 wickets each time he bowls .. i.e. bowl those "running through the line up spells" he should not be allowed anywhere near an ODI / 20-20 match. The guy is bound to make shoulders of other bowlers droop with his comical efforts to kick balls in from the boundary line and flick the ball underhanded to the keeper from the boundary after taking a run up that is almost as long as his bowling run up. He will be a disaster, especially on long grounds and against sides such as Aus and NZ, who will just run one extra run for everytime the ball goes to him.

Forget 3-4 wickets. At least 1 wicket at the start if he is going to go at over 7 an over.
