Batsman disappointed after Twenty20 omission

http://content-gulf.cricinfo.com/southafrica/content/current/story/306908.html

Jacques Kallis' omission from the South African squad for the Twenty20 World Championship has prompted him to quit as vice-captain of the team. Kallis was non-committal about his future as an international player, though he ruled out the possibility of an early retirement.

"I have resigned as vice-captain and I'm considering my options with regard to the rest of my career," Kallis said. "I have been thinking long and hard over the weekend and there is still a lot of emotion involved because I am extremely disappointed. I was very excited about the tournament and hoping to make a huge contribution.

"I feel I have a lot of good cricket left and my best years might even be ahead of me. Ideally I would like to play many more years for my country but this weekend caused me to question my future for the first time."

Joubert Strydom, the newly-appointed chairman of selectors, said that Kallis was merely rested for the tournament, keeping in mind South Africa's packed schedule ahead. With quite a few young players competing for places in the top order, Strydom felt it would be better to preserve Kallis for Tests and one-dayers and not risk him in the Twenty20 format.

If I were Kallis I would be overjoyed to have been omitted from a form of game as ridiculous as 20-20.

But you are not Kalli's and he is obviously not as overjoyed as you want him to me...to the extent that he is contemplating quitting the game.

I wish so too, I would love to see him play a pivotal role in SAF cricket for a few more years or maybe quit all this and join ICL tomorrow.

Imagine the amount of learning people can get from him...

Didn't you know that God reside in every human being? So how can you say that God is not in Kallis?

Seriously, to drop a player like Kallis from any form of cricket is simply ridiculous imo.

Why do these guys take unilateral decisions on resting someone....

If that was the case, why pick Pollock ....he needs to be rested and preserved more than Kallis ....

Is Smith up to his tricks again...like he did with Klusener ??!!!!!!!!

While on resting players, I simply fail to understand why a currently injured ZK (he had a bruised heel when the team was announced and now a supposed thigh strain) has been picked for the upcoming ODIs but rested for the 20/20 WC. It would have made more sense to rest him immediately and have him back for the 20/20 game where he's probably required to play a max 5 or 6 games of 20 overs each.

with all due respect to kallis, his game isn't exactly cut out for 20/20 much like dravid's or jaffer's.

sponsors will not allow it ... and ZK himself would not want it. . i am sure match fees are higher in ODIs than in the 20-20

May be toi give him longer break. Also i am quite sure he isnt going to play all 7 ODI's in england.
