Innings behind mike beckons Sourav

KOLKATA: There may be a big question mark over Sourav Ganguly's future as an international cricketer in the Greg Chappell-Rahul Dravid era, but a lucrative and prestigious alternative career awaits the former Indian captain when he eventually calls it a day.

A television commentator's job is there for the taking should he choose to opt for a life behind the microphone. Sources close to Ganguly said he is excited at the prospect, but wants to take one last shot at reviving his cricket career.

Nimbus, which holds the production and TV rights for matches to be played in India over the next four years, is game. "If Sourav wants to turn commentator, we would love to have him on board.

He did a couple of sessions with us in Sri Lanka a few years back when he was injured, and he was quite good," Nimbus chairman Harish Thawani told TOI.

Well...he certainly is much more eloquent than Srinath-- hope they replace Srinath with Ganguly someday.

There's only so much of it I can take; not funny anymore, just plain embarassing.  I wonder if people think that is the best India has to offer.

Would love to hear Saurav's comments behind the mike. His natural aggression would make him a good listen. He is a very good speaker and would do a good job.

Hope it happens for the WC.

If we takes off his shirt and all, the telecast may have to be Rated R  :D :D

Isnt it a bit premature for all this talk? SG definitely speaks better English than Sri. I think, part of Sri's problems might be that he gets excited.

Personally, I think part of Srinath's problems seem to be his cricketing brain.  I don't mean to be rude when I say that, even though it may sound that way, but he just does not really add any sort of insights while commentating-- it's usually just one ridiculous comment after the other leaving his fellow commentator and the listeners perplexed.

Sahir, heartily agreeing with you. He's a nice man, but when it takes ten yrs to realise that a ball that leaves the batsman [leg cutter/ out swing for the RHB] is a necessary part of the fast bowlers armoury, and that a couple of 4s hit off you is not the end of the world, it shows something about Sri's intelligence [or lack thereof].

A modern great, and the most unlucky India bowler though!

I would love to see/hear Nasser and Ganguly together in a TV analysis team. Two captians with opposite approaches/styles...but great brains and very eloquent.

And given that we are discussing commentary styles...I think Dravid could be interesting too as a Simon Hughes-type analyst (if he learns to slow down his pace of speaking!) Views?

Dravid will say..."Maybe...Not sure...Sorry, this match is too close, i have to step outside...best batsman? i can't be biased..."

Wasn't Dravid an analyst for espn/star during the semis and finals of WC99. I found him quite boring to listen to at that time. So, I'll reserve my judgement on him.
