Yuvraj fit to play second Test
« on: March 04, 2006, 12:40:22 PM »
PTI news
Nagpur, March 4, 2006

Middle order batsman Yuvraj Singh is expected to be available for the second Test against England commencing at Mohali on March 9 after having recovered from a hamstring strain.
BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said a fitness report on the Punjab left-hander was with the Board and it appeared he had recovered.

"I have got first-hand report on Yuvraj's fitness and he seems to have recovered," Indian Cricket Board Secretary Niranjan Shah said on Saturday.

"The report of the physiotherapist would be taken into consideration when the selection committee meets here tomorrow," he added.

Yuvraj, who suffered the injury during India's sensational run-chase in the fifth and final ODI against Pakistan at Karachi, missed the ongoing first Test.

The Punjab batsman had come down to the Orange City to undergo treatment and rehabilitation with the Indian team's physio John Gloster.

Meanwhile, Shah said coach Greg Chappell had acknowledged the missive e-mailed to him by the Board, warning him not to talk on the Sourav Ganguly issue.

Chappell had said in an interview to British newspaper The Guardian that the former Indian captain wanted to cling on to his captaincy because of financial reasons.

Ganguly took umbrage at the comments and asked BCCI to take up the matter with the coach and the Board secretary.

"We have received the acknowledgement from Chappell," Shah said while adding that no meeting was to be held in Nagpur between the coach and BCCI president Sharad Pawar as speculated in a section of the media.

Just asking but not advocating.

Correct me if I am wrong. Don't the rules say that an injured player first has to prove fitness in a domestic tournament? At least that is what we heard several times over the last few months.

That applies only for poor souls like Kaif who has no backing whatsoever. Not for guys like HS, YS, VS, SS

:) I tink YS was out onlly for one test and thus gets to play. his fitness could be tested in nets.
Not sure who will sit out though. Will it be Kaif ,VVSL,VS or SRT .. Lets wait for second innings.. MK sitting is more likely.

No way Kaif will be dropped after that knock. Has to be VVSL unless he comes up with something magical...in which case, maybe Sachin  :(

Kaif had a similar injury (hamstring) during the challengers. He was out for 2 ODIs. 2 ODIs = 1 Test. Isin't that a reasonable comparison ? But Kaif was asked to play for UP in a 3-4 day game to prove his match fitness and get back into the ODI squad. But Yuvi will get in straight, looks like ;)
