The swing offered by this most delightful of English Test grounds remained just as prodigious yesterday as on day one and Vaughan could easily have gone on 11 had Simon Taufel not rightly decided that he had failed to touch a Singh inswinger as the Indians celebrated prematurely and with gusto.


.....so that cost us 113 runs and nearly the match!

But that (seems from reading the above) is a correct decision. So it cost us nothing.

Two howlers from Howell, well at least 1. Oval Test Day1.
KKD given out caught behind of Sidebottom. Replays show nothing on snicko.
SG given out LBW, HUGE inside edge on to pads.

Make that 1 howler as KKD himself says he had the faintest of edges.

KKD was out. He admitted that there was a faint edge during the post play interview. So, that should in fact count as a very good decision by Howell.

SG was an obvious mistake.

That said, India's progress in the second session should have begun with the very first ball after lunch. Anil Kumble, completing the over that accounted for Vaughan before the lunch break, trapped Collingwood right in front of the stumps with a googly that the batsman failed to read. Ian Howell, the umpire, ruled not out, perhaps convinced by the long stride that Collingwood had managed to get in.
