To be honest I wasn't aware that IP was any good at reverse swing...is this something new he has picked up or is it the magic in the SG balls coupled with the conditions?? This really has me worried abt how our batsmen are going to shape up againt the England pace attack...If our openers click that should give a lot of confidence to batsmen up next...reverse swing or not..

I think GC deserves some credit for improved slip catching (if at all) in this test. He himself is one of the all-time best slip catchers besides Bob Simpson, Mark Taylor, Mark Waugh. According to Bob Simpson, GC has great technique of slip catching.

I wondered sometime back that why GC was not improving our slip catching, why was he not giving tips to our slip fielders etc.

For your reference, here is the thread
http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~swarup/forum/index.php?topic=167.0

RD is a good slip fielder.Still, there is lot of improvement needed in RD's slip catching. There can always be scope for improvement. Some small tips can do wonders.
RD was also dropping lot of catches in the last few tests.

I posted another article yesterday, in which it was told that GC & More were seen giving our slip fielders catching practice.

We need to give credit to GC, for whatever he does. But we have to criticize,  if we don't like any of his actions. We know there are some of GC's great fans, who support him for whatever he does.

Just saw the second and 3rd sessions from y'day.... man, that over from Sreesanth when he got Pietersen out...is the reason we watch test cricket. Fantastic setup and bowling to a strategic plan by Sreesanth... I think the entire team and the planners deserve credit for this and SS gets the credit for executing to the plan.

Here is the comm from CI..
---
40.1 Sreesanth to Pietersen, no run, Dropped! Pietersen gets an edge to
second slip where Laxman, after taking a superb catch earlier,
        grasses a regulation one.
40.2 Sreesanth to Pietersen, no run
40.3 Sreesanth to Pietersen, no run, That one was full and it swung in
late on Pietersen. He tried to play it to the leg side and got a
leading edge on to the off.
40.4 Sreesanth to Pietersen, no run, pushed to cover.
40.5 Sreesanth to Pietersen, OUT: Bowled. Pietersen tries to pull one
thats not that short and chops it on to his stumps. Laxman will be
        a relieved man.

       England 110/3, Partnership of 29
       KP Pietersen  b Sreesanth  15 (33b 2x4 0x6)
       AN Cook 51* (125b 6x4) S Sreesanth 9.5-2-33-2 (1w 1nb)

Paul Collingwood is the new batsman. pietersen was dropped off the
first ball of the over but didn't make the Indians pay for
        Laxman's lapse.

Of course. I give credit to our brilliant ground fielding yesterday. saved at least 25 runs. Also GC gets credit for diving saves by AK, Viru, IP. But RD was more than a good slip catcher. OK, not at the level of Taylor, Waugh, Warne, but still among the best contemporary slip catchers. All I said was giving more than needed credit for RD's catching and Kaif's ground fielding. RD's decent dip in slip catching could have been just a blip or he was trying something new. Sure, if RD elevates himself to the level of Waugh, Taylor, Warne or even takes a few more blinders and attributes his improvements to GC, I will also gladly agree with RD and give credit to GC.

Also, let us see if this excellent ground fielding is just a hangover of ODIs. As I said, if the same intensity is sustained for the entire series, GC takes all credit for the improved fielding.

My point is not that. It is not to give "great" credit. May be GC shared some of his technical tips in slip catching. He concentrated a lot on slip catching in the practice sessions at Nagpur. He realized the importance of a dropped catch in Tests. In Tests, a dropped catch costs a lot.

For that, he needs "some" credit, not great credit. As you said, we can give him great credit, based on our fielding in this Test series.

I will give it. But it takes some time. I have to search past threads, where I typed all that.

But cricketon.tv has more clear picture. Try that. It is free for first Test. From second test onwards, we can try sopcast.

tough to say .. the pitch seems ok for batting but for being a bit slow ... no real bite for the bowlers ...
