Former cricketer Maninder Singh has been admitted to a hospital in East Delhi after he reportedly slashed his wrists.

The former left arm spinner is said to be out of danger, though he's not in a position to give any statement to the police.

Maninder Singh's friend, however, denied that it was a suicide attempt.

''This is an accident, not a suicide case. He has been suffering from depression for sometime. He slipped and fell on glass and ended up with slashed wrists. One hand is damaged badly. We brought him to the hospital and got him admitted. He has bled quite a lot,'' he said.

Singh was arrested on May 22 for alleged possession of around 1.5 grammes of cocaine.

Singh was booked under charges of possession of drugs and his confession that he does snort the drug made the case stronger against him.

He was released on bail on May 23.

What a sad state of affairs, an international cricketer reduced to this level of abjectness...

Shocking turn to Maninder’s life, family says accident

NEW DELHI, June 10: Former Test cricketer Maninder Singh, arrested last month for possessing cocaine, was rushed to Shanti Mukund Hospital early on Saturday with both wrists slashed. There was speculation that he had attempted suicide though his family insisted it was an accident.

An unconscious Maninder was rushed to hospital around 1.10 am by wife Mili and a neighbour. He had lost a lot of blood. After a seven-hour surgery, he was reported to be stable on Saturday evening, though still unfit to make a statement.

The police are yet to register a case. Doctors said it might take another 48 hours before Maninder could make a statement to the police. "Singh had deep injuries on both wrists, especially on the right wrist. The tendons, nerves and vessels were badly damaged and he had lost a lot of blood. We had to conduct a seven-hour surgery to fix the structure of the wrist. He might have to undergo a further surface operation," hospital superintendent G S Mathur said.

"We can’t do anything as he’s yet to make any statement. The doctors have also not given their final opinion. But the injuries seem to have been inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon," said DCP (east) Ajay Chaudhary. Another officer who visited the spot said, "Initial investigations suggest he banged his hands against glass windows in anger. One of the broken pieces of glass may then have been used to cut the wrists."

Maninder’s wife said, "He came back late on Friday night while we were asleep. He came to the balcony which has glass bay windows, and in an attempt to wake us up, he crashed his hands into the window pane and ended up cutting his wrists".

They showed pictures of blood all over his house on TV... if he lost that much blood, quite frankly I am surprised he survived. The whole damn house the camera was scanning was splattered (yes, splattered) with blood.

SAY NO TO DRUGS!!!
