Mashrafe Mortaza to Lara, SIX, Wow. That scintillating whiplash square-drive from the master. Maximum. It was fullish and outside off, Lara whipped it away off the front foot and it flew over point. Mortaza looks stunned. That was a great trademark shot from Lara. As Sambit Bal wrote long time back, "For bliss, song, dance and glory who else but Brian Lara."

 ::cheers::

It is going to be a tough decision for the team winning the toss for the finals .

There is enough assistance for the fast bowlers in the first hour. If you negotiate the first hour without losing too many wickets and get a decent score , you can put pressure on the team chasing.

However if Aussies reach the finals nothing matters.

Wright talking about his frustrations with inability to introduce a fitness culture in the Indian team. Finally, Dalmiya gave in and the players took to it.

A gem by Wright : Fitness doesnt make you a better player..it just allows you to play at a higher level for longer durations!!

Bravo Wright.. I hope we hire you again!!

Tony Greig says .. NONSENSE to the theory that the Indian player physiology and food habits do not lend itself to better fitness.

Great debate here on MAX. Charu is impressive, he has the pulse of the audience and focusses on the issue.

John Wright is very insightful...

He ducked the q of whether he would coach India again.. but said (knowing the Indian system now)anyone coming in should demand complete control..and say on support staff selection, team selection ..the whole nine yards.

He said his toughest job was to get the team to get better after the highs of away Aussie drawn series, away Pak series win...he and the team just couldnt do it.

In this tournament, many teams batting first have lost wickets early and have posted a fairly small score.  West Indies started off really slowly today, but kept wickets, and finally moved into high gear, posting a respectable 230/5.  This used to be the standard strategy in ODI only about ten years ago, after which pitches and some players like BCL, Greatbach , Crowe and of course Jayasuriya changed the standard strategy. Does the past few matches and this one imply that on WI pitches, this is a more fruitful strategy?

Well, I dont really know. IF the team has been able to post a reasonable score after playing slowly in the beginning overs, its fine. But several teams have been unable to do so. The other problem is that there are teams such as Aus, SL and in some matches SA, who have been able to go fast from the word go .. even if they are batting first. Now, if you are playing against such a side, a score built after consolidation in the first few overs may be respectable, but just not good enough.
