I just read in India Today that they are now exporting Mangoes to the US. Alphonso mangoes cost 3$ a piece. It is a rip-off. Having said that, in India at Nilgiris end Feb I bought 4 "early season" Alphonsos. They were 150 Rs. Also a rip-off. Alphonso have become smaller and more expensive over the years.

Thanks Finey.
Fruits (and food) are the only fun part.. otherwise it is just work and work and obscene traffic, heat, dust, power-cuts, unseasonal rains clogging streets etc

India is shining but the infra (across the board) needs serious investment..

...Bangalore has hit the "breaking point", Pune is almost getting there, Hyderabad will soon get there -- specially given that the current CM is mega-corrupt & inept, and the local civil administration is in a state of chaos after the recent annexation of multiple nearby municipalites and creation of a Greater Hyderabad (which makes it the second largest city in India by area, after Delhi).

Reminds of what my prof was telling me the other day. This company called Xango got some patent for selling mangosteen juice. Mangosteen tastes decent and supposedly has a ton of nutrients and helps fight disease. A bottle of this "superfood" would set you back about $35.

This is a cash cow if there ever was one.

Yeah right, superfood.... this is to serve as an early warning to you, so you don't end up a bakra. Xango is attempting an Amway in the drink business. Ridiculously prices bottles of stuff .... one guesses will only be bought cos of the pyramid greed.

Since Mangosteen has been mentioned in the same line, I'd like to rescue the poor thing: its delicious, the Chinese consider it the king of fruit, and is not remotely as unsavory as Xango.

Has anyone ever tried Rambutan, I have been hearing some good things about it . It looks awful and does not inspire me to pick it up but people seem to enjoy it a lot.

I do like Mangosteen but I don't think it is as incredible tasting as so many attest.

I know nothing about Xango's business plans. I was only interested in the fact that they can patent juice. *EDIT: I suppose should say that the patent is the only thing I know about their business plans.

Looks like this

I put spaces in the square brackets ( it should be [/img] and [img] ) so that you can see it. Just take out the spaces and it works.
